Post 6: Postgraduate studies

Hello to everyone. I'm going to talk to you about a graduate degree I'd like to study. I have always liked the area of dance education and pedagogy and I would like to continue. I like education very much, since I have been teaching in a dance academy for some time. I think that from that moment on I discovered that this was my path. In this course I would like to learn much more about pedagogy in children. I started as an assistant in courses where very young children attend and I realized that I was very interested. I like to teach through games and dynamics, songs and small exercises.  I haven't really found out about courses in Chile but I know that there are courses abroad.  Anyway, when I finish my degree I think I would like to go abroad to study...maybe that's the moment! I would also like to study a course that is totally presential. I must admit that I do not like much the virtual and online hahaha. This year was enough online study  An...

Post 5: My future job

Hello!Sometimes I find it hard to "imagine" my future. About my future work I could say that I would like to work on something related to dance. Since the age of 16 I have worked as an "assistant" in an academy. I helped the teachers who had the "initiation to dance" course. They were girls from three to five years old so a lot of help was needed. This year I was promoted and I am a teacher of that course. I was very happy because it was my biggest achievement this year. I think I would like to continue working on this, teaching younger children. I would like to continue specializing in teaching. With time I have managed to study a lot and learn from other teachers but there is still a lot left. I want to travel so I can continue studying! There is a lot to learn.  Regarding the salary, it is difficult to talk about that haha. In dance there is usually little work because...we live in Chile haha. Besides, I want to dedicate myself to teaching...an area wh...

Post 3: The most embarrassing thing I´m willing to admit

Hello! I have very few memories of an embarrassing situation but there is one that I remember perfectly hahaha, I used to go frequently to the beach "el quisco". I remember that when I was 8 years old we went again, and one day we spent the afternoon at the beach. That year they gave the notice that on the beaches of Chile there was high tide. We were with my family under a parasol and sitting on a towel, around there were more people. Until suddenly a giant wave arrives and takes away my pair of sandals. The wave wet us too hahaha. I ran after them because they were the only sandals I had. And I shouted "my sandals!" haha. All the people were looking at me. I decided to wait, my mom told me that maybe the sea would return them haha. I waited 10 minutes at the seashore and in a wave came my sandals again. I was very happy at that moment because I was going to be able to walk around in sandals haha :)

Post 4: What are you really into?

Hello to everyone! I like to do many things haha. I didn't like cooking before but in this quarantine I discovered that I actually like. I love cooking "sweet things", cookies, cakes, alfajores, chocolates, brownies. I feel that it relaxes me and that is very important in these times haha. My parents have diabetes and it is very difficult to buy things in the supermarket. There are no things suitable for them and it is better to do it at home. I have studied a lot about how to improve nutrition. That makes me very happy, helping my parents. The makeup is another thing that I have studied in this quarantine. Now I am a compulsive shopper in makeup hahaha. I bought a lot of things on cyberdays. I love eyeshadow palettes, lipsticcks, brushes, etc.  Sometimes I watch tutorials on Youtube and practice. Now I would like to take a makeup course, it is time!!I know chilean makeup artists who take courses. I would like to learn in more detail, some techniques, know watch each bru...

Post 2: My best vacation

Hi! Today I will talk about my best vacation. This year, I went to Buenos Aires. More than a vacation, it was a new experience haha. I was 2 weeks in March. We planned this vacation with my best friend for a long time. We were afraid of traveling alone, buuuut all went well. The first day in Buenos Aires, we went to feria de San Telmo. I really liked it because they sold many artisan things. I bought many souvenirs and "alfajores" hahah. I also took a photo with Mafalda<3. Then we walk towards the "Obelisco" and ate pizza in a restaurant. The next days we took dance class and visit other places like "caminito", "tigre" and "Teatro San Martín". Why it has been the best so far? Because it was very fun. I ate, walked and danced a lot. It was my first vacation without my parents. I had dance classes with very outstanding teachers and I learned a lot.  Also Buenos Aires is beautiful and has many alfajores <3.

Post 1 : A country I would like to visit.

Imagen
Hi! In my mind I have many countries that I would like visit. Without a doubt, the favorite on my list is Mexico, specifically Mexico City. In 2018 I traveled to the United States, I had a stopover in Mexico and I was there for a day. I feel that I knew him little and it is very beautiful country:(. There I would like to know and walk through the different tourist places. Eat tacos, know Chichén Itzá and visit Frida Kahlo´s house. Would you like to study/ work/ live there? Yes! I know many dancers who have gone to perfec there especially in contemporary dance. There are many dance schools and places to study. It is a city with a lot of art! There also many museums, theaters and art rooms. I feel that it is a good destination and I hope I can get there (hopefully soon hahah) Thanks for reading me!

Post 10 > Some reflections

Hi! This semester has been complicated in every way. The hardest thing has been to resist virtuality. Seeing people through the screen, having classes by Zoom has been difficult. There are days where I dont want to. I have missed my friends and my family a lot but I try to think that this will happen soon. The good thing about all this is that I have had a lot of time at time. My dog is very happy to see me every day hahaha. I have more time to take classes. I really wanted to learn to dance flamenco and now I was able to take classes! I also learned to cook many things. Cakes, cookies, cinnamon rolls, brownie, pizza, pasta. Before I hated cooking but I now like. One of my achievements has been to be able to make a change in my diet. I no longer eat meat and in my home we stopped consuming sugar. My parents had been very sick last year and we needed to make a change.

Post 9> Your favorite book

Hi! I have a lot of books in my head that I've liked but before I will talk about other things. At this moment I do not have a favorite author. When I was school I did have, and  was Edgar Allan Poe. I had to read many books from him and I love them. On my tastes in reading, I like to read a little of everything. Mistery books, police, feminism, education and bioographies. Since I was little I liked to read and I try to read everything. My favorite book is "el segundo sexo"from Simone de Beauvoir. I met her in school philosophy classes a long time ago. I was very interested and this year I bought that book. I started reading it in March (I have a bit left to finish it because it is very long) and I really liked it. Poses feminism from different areas and visions. I recommend it! And well, the last book I am reading is this. I hope to finish it later! A bonus track: I also I liked IT from Stephen King. Its not my favorite book but when I read it, I got caught.

Post 8> A subject you've enjoyed studying this semester.

Hi! Actually, I had a hard time picking out a bouquet I liked. The classes during a pandemic have been difficult. But I think that I have a bouquet that I really liked this semester. That class is anatomy. Sadly, we only had four anatomy classes because it was so little in the way of content. The teacher was showing a Power Point and answer our questions. The final work was extensive but I liked it very much and it went very well. The contents of classes were to analyze movements, the central nervous system, muscle activation. I've always loved anatomy, ever since I was in school and we used to see body parts, but with university classes I loved it even more. Sometimes I find it hard to understand because it's so much content but I worry about studying hard so I can do well in the evaluations. I like to learn about the body, how it works, how it moves, the muscles, the bones.

Post 7> Your Bucket List

The last  bucket list I made was in January of this year. I read it and my dreams haven't changed much. The first wish written on the sheet was to be able to travel with my family outside of Chile. We have never had the opportunity to make a long trip together and I would love to make it come true. Another wish that I am looking forward to at the moment (I wrote it down now in the list) is to be able to see my friends. I miss them very much. I miss being able to talk, eat chips together and dance. Just before the pandemic I was able to fulfill one of my dreams, to be able to travel to Buenos Aires to take classes. I went with my best friend and we enjoyed ourselves very much. We have more trips planned that we would like to do together! Regarding dance, I want to learn flamenco. Unfortunately, due to time constraints, I have not been able to take classes :( I think at this moment I don't have a difficult dream to fulfill (so far). I would like to be able to fulfill these wish...

This picture was taken by me last winter. It's my dog. His name is Teodoro, but sometimes my family call him "Teo" or "Teito". I took this photo with my light blue Polaroid camera when I had photo papers. Why do I like this photo? Because my dog is very beautiful and faithful. And, of course, I love him so much. Also, Teo was wearing a light blue sweater designed by my mom. However, today he doesn't wear that sweater because it's too small for him. In that moment, I remember that I said "Teodoro, stay here. I want to take a picture of you" and run to bring my camera and took the photo. I don't know if it's correct, but I think Teo understood and stayed in that place. Then, once I took the photo, Teodoro run really fast to the garden to play with his dog toys. He's very obedient but playful at the same time, so It's very difficult to take a photo of him. This is the reason why this photo is one of my favorite.

Post 4 > TV shows and series

Imagen
Until now, one of my favorite series is Stranger Things. It’s science fiction series that I could see on Netflix in 2016. I think Stranger Things is one of the best production of the last years. First of all, the cast is amazing and Millie Bobby Brown is so talented. In second place, the atmosphere is so interesting because is setting in the 80’s, that including many pop culture references like music, videogames or movies of that decade. Finally, the songs are funny, because the synthesizers and the others instruments remember me when my mom was listened music when I was five or six years. However, If I could recommend another series, Dark is a good option. His science fiction plot, cast and music create an unique and mysticism atmosphere. It will be released a new season soon, so you must see it!

Post 3> My favourite piece of technology

Imagen
Hi! Today I will talk to you about my favorite piece of technology. It was difficult to choose an object! But I started to think of something that I've been busy a lot during this quarantine. That object is my cell phone. These days, my cell phone has been very important. I have been able to make video calls with my family and friends (I miss them :() My cell phone is a Galaxy J7 and I bought it on a Christmas 2 years ago. It has been very useful. I don't like to use my cell phone so much because one later depends on him. But It is inevitable not to occupy it. I always occupy the cell phone, especially these quarantine days. I use this object to call, send messages, take classes,  see Instagram, Whatsapp , Facebook, videos  and do online classes. With the cell phone I can keep in touch and "feel"that my family and friends are close. I think that if I dindn't have a cell phone, everything would be very different. I would not be aware of social medias. But I wou...

Post 2> Why did you choose this career/study programme?

When I was a child, my job  dream was just to be a nurse. My mother made me a nurse apron and I imagined that my room was a hospital.  As time goes by, my tastes changed and I found my interest in dance. After completing school, I did not have any other career options, I just wanted to study dance. My experience at university has been good. I have good friends! I love them. My first year of university was entertaining. We were learning together. These last 2 years have been more difficult. At the beggining it was very complicated and I got very frustrated when things didn´t work out for me. I have questioned many things. Despite everything, my friends are always there! At this time, I have a "stable job". I work with children in a dance academy. I love being able to teach.  For me, it is the perfect job!

Post 1> My auto biography

Hi everybody! My name is Bárbara Palma. I am 19 years old but I will soon be 20 years old. I was born in 2000 in Santiago de Chile. I was raised and now lives in Puente Alto. All my family lives in Puente Alto and La Florida. I live with my mother, my father, my brother, my pet (Teo) and my. Teo is my dog. He is adorable and restless. But he is still very young. Teo is 3 years old. I studied at ISUCH (Instituto Artistico de Estudios Secundarios). When I was 11 years old, my mother found this school. I loved to dance (now also!) and that school was artistic. I made good friends and we still talk. About some of my hobbies, I like to read and write. I enjoy reading about the anatomy, feminism, history and cokery recipes. In this quarantine, I found cookbooks! I like to cook in my free time. Also I enjoy listening to music. I like listening to pop, chilean music, rock and reggaeton.
